Nero : The emperor most loved by the Romans Three-act play..

The figure of Nero has been distorted over the centuries by political and religious powers, to the point of erasing even his tomb and extinguishing the popular cult that, a thousand years after his death, still honored him in Piazza del Popolo. The damnatio memoriae and the propaganda of his successors built the image of a mad tyrant, but behind that mask was a far more complex man.

These three acts offer us a different Nero: a bold reformer, close to the people, a lover of art and Greek culture. He sought to transform Rome by challenging the privileges of the elite, reforming currency to favor the poor, and replacing gladiatorial games with competitions among poets, athletes, and musicians.

But Nero was also a man marked by pain—betrayed by those he loved, from his mother Agrippina to his mentor Seneca. His cruelty may have been the desperate response of someone who felt utterly abandoned.

This play does not seek to absolve or condemn. It simply invites us to look with new eyes at a man long trapped in a version of history written by those who had everything to gain from destroying his memory.
